Why Now Is the Best Time to Book a Branding Session
Thinking about a brand refresh for the new year? Here's why November and December are the smart months to start planning your branding session.
If almost a new year means new goals for your business, your visuals should match that energy.
Buttttt - most people wait until January to start thinking about updating their brand photos. By then, they’re already behind.
The best time to start planning your branding session?
Right now.
Why?
These sessions take time to plaN
Branding sessions aren’t something you pull together overnight. It can take a few weeks (sometimes longer) to talk through strategy, locations, wardrobe, shot lists, and all the little details that make your session work hard for your brand. Starting the process now means you can hit the ground running in January or February with a session that’s fully thought out.
December is the calm before the storM
The end of the year often brings a natural slowdown for service-based businesses. Fewer client meetings. More planning. It’s the perfect time to refocus, realign, and begin prepping your brand visuals without adding pressure to your already busy start-of-year schedule.
You’ll start the year ready
Want to launch a new offer in January? Roll out a fresh website update? Batch your content? That all needs visual support. Booking now and planning over the next few weeks means your images will be ready to go when Q1 hits.
You’re thinking about your business anyway
This is the season of reflection. You’re probably already evaluating what worked, what didn’t, and where you’re headed. It’s the ideal time to refresh your visuals to match the direction your brand is growing in.
Photographers (like me!) have more availability early in the year
Spring and fall? Packed. But winter? Often slower. Booking now lets you secure prime January or February dates and gives us plenty of time to plan everything out. You'll get more personalized support and flexibility.
You can use your downtime productively
If you have a little space in your calendar, use it to do something impactful for your business. A brand session sets you up for months of cohesive, confident marketing.
Use this slower season to plan with purpose. Align your visuals with your vision before the new year hits.
Let’s capture your next chapter now, and be ready to go when the calendar flips.
Behind the Brand: A Powerful Session with Meaghan Mixon of The Rosewood Firm
Quiet power, concierge-level service, and a presence you can count on. A recent brand session with Meaghan Mixon of The Rosewood Firm captured all that and more. Here’s a peek behind the scenes.
There are some clients who walk into the room and instantly shift the energy. Meaghan Mixon is one of them.
Meaghan is the founder of The Rosewood Firm, a luxury legal concierge practice based in the DC area. She's the person you call when the unexpected happens, when the stakes are high, or when privacy, strategy, and support all need to show up at once. Whether it's a family crisis, criminal charge, or sensitive document review, Meaghan is the person you want on your side.
We created this brand session to reflect all of that.
She didn’t want stiff headshots or traditional law firm imagery. Instead, we focused on capturing presence. Her strength and calm. Her ability to walk into chaos and start solving it. The moments where she’s quietly reading a text that changes the course of someone's day, or arriving at a door, ready to be someone's advocate.
The space we used was perfect—a beautiful mix of natural light and clean, structured design. It gave us exactly what we needed: warmth, minimalism, and calm. It let Meaghan take center stage.
Throughout the shoot, Meaghan brought the full range of her brand to life. From crisp white suits and coffee-pouring moments to editorial frames and steady, in-motion shots—she embodied the part problem-solver, part confidante role she plays in her clients' lives every day.
These photos aren't about showcasing a specific legal service. They're about showing how it feels to have someone like Meaghan in your corner. Someone who answers the phone, shows up, and solves the thing before you even know how to explain it.
This session was powerful, polished, and personal—a perfect reflection of Meaghan and the Rosewood Firm.

Another Day, Another Amazing Team: GoodVets Crystal City Branding Session
Spending the day with the GoodVets Crystal City crew was effortless, fun, and full of energy. Here’s a peek into their branding session and why this team made it such a great experience.
I had the best time hanging out with the GoodVets team again, this time at their Crystal City location. If you’ve been around here a while, you know I’ve done several sessions with different GoodVets locations, and every single time I leave thinking, “Yep, I’d trust my pet with these people.” (even though I don’t have a pup, but that’s beside the point….;-)
The Crystal City crew brought the same friendly, professional, no-stress energy I’ve come to expect from GoodVets. From the first hello to the last snap of the camera, everyone was warm, collaborative, and genuinely fun to work with.
We shot everything from individual headshots to team interactions to lifestyle moments in the exam rooms and beyond. One of the things I love most about branding sessions like this is seeing how a team's personality shines through. You could tell this group really enjoys working together and supporting their clients (and their furry patients). That kind of energy is hard to fake!
Plus, this location has such great light and clean, modern design. We were able to highlight the vibe of the space and how it reflects the care and professionalism of the GoodVets brand.
Thanks again to the whole Crystal City team for trusting me with your photos and being so much fun to work with. If you’re a business looking to update your branding images and want your people and personality to come through, please reach out. Let’s make something great together.
10 Brand Photo Ideas That Go Way Beyond the Headshot
Think branding photos just mean a clean headshot with crossed arms? Think again. Your brand story is deeper, richer, and way more dynamic. Here are 10 creative brand photo ideas to help you show the world who you really are.
Sure, a polished headshot has its place. But branding photography is about so much more than a photo of you smiling at the camera. It’s your visual voice. It tells your story before someone even reads your bio. If you want to build a brand that’s recognizable, relatable, and real, you need imagery that goes deeper.
Here are 10 creative branding photo ideas to bring your story to life:
1. Your Workspace in Action
Whether it’s your studio, your kitchen counter, or your favorite coffee shop corner, show us where the magic happens. People love getting a behind-the-scenes look at your everyday world.
2. Tools of Your Trade
Include the props and tools you use daily—laptop, notebooks, camera, tablet, candles, products—whatever represents your workflow. These add personality and context to your images.
3. Movement + Candid Moments
Branding doesn’t mean stiff. Laugh. Walk. Type. Sip. Dance. Interact. The real you, in motion, tells a much more compelling story than just standing and smiling.
4. Client or Team Interactions
Working with a client? Meeting with a partner? These storytelling moments show what it feels like to work with you—hello, trust-building!
5. Brand Colors and Patterns
Weave your brand palette into your wardrobe, backdrop, or props. Subtle pops of brand color help create a cohesive visual vibe across all platforms.
6. Personality Shots
You being you. Quirky, silly, serene, thoughtful, bold—lean into your personality. It builds connection way faster than perfection ever will.
7. Flatlays or Styled Scenes
Create branded scenes with your favorite things: coffee mugs, books, florals, notebooks, your products, packaging, or seasonal accents. These make great filler images for social and web.
8. Creative Portraits in Unexpected Places
Skip the office setting. Think murals, alleyways, gardens, rooftops. Choosing a location that reflects your vibe gives your portraits a unique edge.
9. Lifestyle Content for Social Media
Go beyond your "business face" and capture more lifestyle elements that reflect your brand values: family, nature walks, hobbies, travel, pets—whatever your audience can connect to.
10. Your Signature Brand Rituals
Do you journal every morning? Light a candle before a client call? Celebrate launches with cake? These little habits are so personal and totally photo-worthy.
Final Thoughts:
Your brand is multi-faceted, and your photography should be too. The goal isn’t just to look good; it’s to look like you. When your photos reflect your real energy, people instantly feel more connected, and connection builds trust.
So the next time you prep for a branding session, skip the stiff poses and think about the story you want to tell. Because your audience doesn’t just want to know what you do—they want to know who you are.

Is It Time to Rebrand? 7 Visual Clues Your Photos Are Outdated
Still rocking that profile pic from three businesses ago? Or using the same headshot on every platform? If your photos don’t match your brand vibe, it may be time for a visual refresh. Here are 7 signs your brand imagery is due for an upgrade.
You’ve evolved. Has your brand imagery kept up?
It’s easy to forget about your brand photos when you’re busy running your business. But outdated visuals could be holding you back from attracting your ideal clients, connecting authentically, and confidently showing up online.
Here are 7 visual clues it might be time to refresh your brand photos:
1. You Look Different (and Not Just Your Haircut)
Your personal style, energy, or even the way you carry yourself may have changed. If your current photos don’t look or feel like you anymore, they’re not doing your brand justice.

2. You’ve Changed Your Services or Audience
New offerings? New dream clients? Your imagery should reflect the direction you’re headed, not where you used to be.
3. Everything Feels "Off-Brand"
If your colors, vibe, or aesthetic have shifted, but your images haven’t followed suit, there’s a disconnect. Consistency matters in building trust and recognition.

4. You're Still Using Stock Photos (or DIY Snapshots)
You’ve grown. Your visuals should too. Custom, high-quality images elevate your brand and show you're investing in your own story.
5. You Cringe When Uploading New Content
If you're constantly digging through your camera roll or recycling the same three photos, it’s time. You deserve a content library that’s as dynamic and engaging as you are.

6. You're Not In Your Brand
Are your photos all products, flat lays, or vague concepts? People connect with people. Your audience wants to see you—the person behind the brand.
7. You’re Launching Something New
Whether it's a course, product, rebrand, or website refresh, new visuals make it feel official. Fresh photos create buzz and bring clarity to your next chapter.
