Couples Portrait Photography

Modern studio portraits that celebrate the connection you've built together.

Not every love story needs a wedding dress.

Maybe you've been married for two years. Maybe twenty-five. Maybe you're celebrating an anniversary, becoming empty nesters, or simply realizing it's been far too long since you've had photos of just the two of you.

These sessions are designed to slow life down for a little while and create photographs that reflect your relationship exactly as it is today. Relaxed. Genuine. Full of personality. And a whole lot of fun.

Couples Portraits Photography for Anniversaries, Milestones and Everyday Connection

Based in my Silver Spring studio and serving couples throughout Montgomery County, Washington DC, Northern Virginia, and the greater DMV, these sessions are designed for people who want to document their relationship as it looks today.

You may be celebrating an anniversary, entering a new chapter, running a business together, or realizing that it has simply been far too long since you had photographs of just the two of you. Whatever brings you into the studio, the goal is to create an experience that feels relaxed, personal, and genuinely enjoyable while making portraits that reflect the connection you have built over time.

What Makes These Maryland Couples Portraits Different?

Guided Direction Without Stiff Posing

You do not need to arrive knowing how to pose or what to do with your hands. I will guide you through movement, expression, and natural interaction while paying attention to the small details that help both of you look comfortable and connected. The session has direction, but it should never feel overly staged.

Focused on the Relationship You Have Today

These are not engagement portraits recreated years later, and you do not need to pretend you are back in the early stages of your relationship. The purpose is to document who you are together now, including the history, familiarity, humor, and depth that have developed over time.

An Experience You Get to Share

The photographs matter, but so does the time you spend creating them. A couples session gives you a reason to step away from work, parenting, errands, and everything else that fills your calendar. You get to slow down, laugh together, try something different, and enjoy time that is intentionally centered on the two of you.

Hair & Makeup Included

Professional hair and makeup with Valerie Hammer is included as part of the session experience. It gives you time to settle in, feel cared for, and arrive in front of the camera looking polished while still feeling completely like yourself. The goal is to help you feel confident, not transformed into someone you do not recognize.

Music That Feels Like the Two of You

Music is an important part of the studio experience. We can play songs you both love, music connected to a particular memory, or simply something that helps you relax and have fun. It creates movement, brings out personality, and often leads to some of the most natural moments of the session.

A Dedicated Studio Experience for Couples

These couples portrait sessions take place in my Silver Spring studio, where we have the time and privacy to focus completely on the two of you. There is no need to watch the weather, work around crowds, or rush to finish before the light disappears.

The studio gives us room to create several different looks while keeping the experience comfortable and unhurried. We can talk, laugh, play music, experiment with different setups, and allow genuine moments to unfold without feeling as though we are racing through a checklist.

How Your Couples Portrait Session Works

Step 1: Reach Out

Tell me a little about the two of you, what led you to consider a session, and whether you are celebrating an anniversary, a milestone, or simply this season of your relationship. You do not need to arrive with a detailed vision. We will develop the ideas together.

Step 2: Prep

I will help you plan clothing that coordinates without feeling overly matched and reflects how you want the portraits to feel. You will receive guidance before the session so you know what to bring, how to prepare, and what to expect when you arrive.

Step 3: Session Day

Your experience begins with professional hair and makeup for one partner, followed by a fully guided studio session. We will move through different setups and expressions while leaving plenty of space for conversation, laughter, and the interactions that are natural to the two of you.

Step 4: Instant Reveal

At the end of the session, we will sit down together and look through the images while the experience is still fresh. You will choose the photographs that feel most like you and think about how you would like to enjoy them, whether that means digital images, printed artwork, or an album that tells the story of the session. There is no pressure to purchase anything beyond the session.

“It was so great to just be with each other and make these new special memories, plus have the photos to look back on for years to come. The whole experience was relaxed, fun and allowed us to connect and appreciate our relationship as it is now.”
