Maryland Photographer
Hi, Iβm Ginny
I photograph families, babies, and small business owners in Maryland and throughout DC and Northern Virginia.
Some people come to me because they want to remember this season with their kids before it changes again.
Others come because they need photos that actually feel like them. Not stiff. Not overdone. Just real, polished, and aligned with where they are right now.
Either way, you donβt need to have it all figured out. Iβll guide you through it.
I love working on location or in my studio. Iβm up for whatβs best for your family, your business and you.
Two Ways to Work Together
Iβm a Maryland photographer based in Silver Spring, working with families, professionals, and small business owners across Washington DC, Bethesda, Rockville, and Northern Virginia.
I offer two distinct ways to work together: heartfelt family photography that captures real connection, and strategic portrait photography for professionals who need imagery that works hard for them.
Whether youβre updating family photos, planning a newborn session, refreshing your LinkedIn presence, or building a stronger visual brand for your business, the experience is designed to feel thoughtful, low-stress, and genuinely enjoyable.
Sessions are available in my Silver Spring studio or on location throughout the DMV, with clear guidance every step of the way so you never have to wonder what to do next.

ITβS NOT JUST ABOUT THE PHOTOS
There are a lot of photographers in Maryland.
What tends to bring people here is how the experience feels.
Everything is thoughtfully planned, but not rigid.
You are guided, but not overly posed.
Organized, but relaxed
(and dare I sayβ¦.fun!)
Iβm paying attention to the small things the whole time.
The way your kid leans into you.
The way you hold yourself when youβre a little unsure.
The moments in between what you think Iβm photographing.
This is for anyone who have outgrown their old headshot. (or really, just cringes at their current one.)
It may technically workβ¦ but doesnβt really feel like you.
Maybe youβve stepped into something bigger.
Maybe your business has evolved.
Maybe youβre showing up more and realizing your photos arenβt keeping up.
Maybe itβs a full brand overhaul to fix that. Or maybe itβs a headshot. Or something in-between.
But you do need images that feel aligned.
My approach is simple. We create photos that feel like you, just a little more pulled together, more intentional, more in line with where youβre going.
Not stiff. Not overly styled. Not trying too hard.
Just confident, natural, and current.
And you wonβt have to guess what to do at any point. Iβll guide you through the entire process so you donβt feel awkward standing in front of the camera.
Modern Headshots & Branding Photography in the DMV
Maryland Photographer for Families
If youβre a mom trying to coordinate schedules, outfits, and kids who may or may not cooperateβ¦ I get it. (as a mom of 2, Iβm with you)
This is usually the part that stops people.
But - itβs doesnβt have to be stressful.
My sessions are relaxed and kid-friendly, with just enough direction to keep things moving without forcing anything. We let your kids be themselves. We keep things light. And somewhere in the middle of all of that, we get the photos you actually want.
The ones where everyone feels like themselves.
The ones where youβre in them too.
Because that part matters.
Most sessions take place outdoors around Montgomery County, Washington DC, or Northern Virginia, or in my Silver Spring studio depending on what fits your family best.
Weβll choose what works best for your session, your schedule, & the kind of photos you want.
I photograph newborns and families to headshots, modern portraits, & full branding shoots.
So whether youβre documenting your family or updating how you show up professionally, you donβt have to start over with someone new.
If weβve worked together before, you already know how I work, and I already know how to help you feel comfortable in front of the camera.
And if youβre new here, know that the goal is the same no matter the type of session: making the process feel approachable, straightforward, and far less awkward than you might expect.

βGinny came by to take pictures of me and my daughter. I was a little nervous because my little one tends to tense up for the camera. Ginny was great, and my daughter took right to her, and was smiling and super happy. We had some great series.
When I got the pictures back, they were simply amazing, beautiful. I have so many great pictures of us smiling and laughing together. I would recommend Ginny 1000 times over!
She was the best!β

And whether itβs your family session or a headshot youβve been putting off for years, youβll walk away feeling like it was easier than you expected.
Iβve been doing this for over a decade,
and the biggest thing Iβve learned
is that people need someone who can lead,
keep things moving,
and make it feel manageable.
She made what can be an awkward experience very comfortable and relaxed, and the photos came out beautifully. The quality is amazing, plus my husband and I had fun throughout this whole experience. Whether it be responding to all our questions and emails immediately, working out the details of the shoot and contract, being relaxed and easy to talk to during our session, plus fast turn around and good quality rates, we were so impressed with her and will refer her to our friends.
β MMy sessions are guided, but relaxed.
Iβll absolutely tell you what to do so youβre never standing there wondering what to do with your hands or whether youβre doing this βright,β but nothing is stiff, overly posed, or forced. The goal is not perfection. Itβs creating images that feel natural, confident, and genuinely like you.
With familiesβ¦
that usually means giving kids room to move, explore, play, and be themselves while I gently guide things in the background. Iβm not expecting perfect behavior or constant smiling at the camera. Some of the best moments happen in the in-between, when everyone relaxes a little and just interacts naturally.
With headshots and brandingβ¦
the approach shifts a bit, but the goal stays the same. Most people do not walk in feeling instantly comfortable in front of a camera, and thatβs completely normal. Iβll help with expression, posture, movement, and all the little adjustments that make a big difference so you look polished, approachable, and like yourself, not like youβre pretending to be someone else.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
After years of tracking the weather for sessions, it's never truly accurate until a few hours before. If rain is in the forecast, I ask what is the latest possible time we can make the call for a Plan B.
If at the agreed-upon time it still looks like rain, we can either move the session indoors to your home, or find a time to reschedule based on mutual availability.
-
The busiest seasons are spring and fall.
I recommend reaching out in Feb/March for spring sessions and July/August for fall sessions.
During the rest of the year 1-2 months in advance is recommended!
-
Try to avoid anything too "matchy-matchy". Think about complementary colors as opposed to matching colors. Alternate solids and prints.
Photos generally look the best when there is a nice blend of 2 or 3 colors among everyone. Layers, textures, and accessories all play well on camera. Neutral colors provide a timeless look. Wear something YOU are comfortable in- if you're not, it will come across.

Kids are going to be...kids!! I want to embrace their uniqueness and allow that to shine through the photos. There will probably be moments of giggles, some meltdowns, and flat-out frustration. And that is okay!
The key is to let go of control and embrace the moment. I try to keep the session moving by playing games and taking breaks as necessary. And you never know, those wild personalities photos maybe some of your favorites!

Yes! Your furry friends are welcome to join for outdoor or home locations! If we are not at your home, we need to make sure the location is dog friendly! It's helpful to bring treats as motivation to keep attention towards the camera!
If your dog is super energetic, we'll need a way to keep the dog occupied if you want some photos without them. Sometimes bringing a friend to watch the dog while you're taking photos can be helpful!
Due to allergies and equipment, I cannot have dogs in the studio. -
You will receive a link via email to an online gallery where you can view and download your photos. You can share this link with friends and family. You can also order prints and cards directly from the gallery!
My turnaround time is 1-2 weeks.

Have you ever looked through your childhood photos and thought, βUgh, I wish my mom had lost a few pounds before getting in the picture,β or, βWhy are there so many pictures of me with my parents?β Of course not. Youβre just happy those photos exist, right?
Weβre all our own worst critics, but your kids donβt care about any of that. What they will care about is having real photos of themselves with you. Time is flying, and this chapter of your familyβs story will be over before you know it.Item description
Maryland photography should feel easier than you think
Most of the people I work with are juggling a lot - busy schedules. Kids. Careers. A million tabs open in their brain at all times.
So whether weβre planning a family session or updating your headshots, I get it.
I take the pressure off.
You donβt need to know how to pose.
You donβt need to have perfect outfits.
You donβt need perfectly behaved kids.
You just need to show up.
Iβll guide the rest in a way that feels natural, calm, and actually kind of fun. (yes, this is possible!)
Thatβs the throughline in everything I do. And itβs why so many people come back year after year.
What clients often sayβ¦
That didnβt feel awkward at all.
This was easier than I expected.
I usually hate photos of myself and I love these.
