Welcome to your summer family experience

with Ginny Filer Photography!

I’m a Maryland family photographer based in Silver Spring, MD, and I love capturing joyful, natural connections during the season when blossoms and light are beautifully soft and the world feels fresh again. Whether you want outdoor portraits, backyard sessions, or relaxed studio vibes, I’ll help you create photos you and your family will return to year after year.

Hi, I’m Ginny

A smiling woman with long wavy blonde hair holding a camera in her right hand, wearing a green leather jacket, a white textured top, and jeans, standing in front of a white door with glass panels.

I focus on photographing families when they are most at ease, when connection takes over and the real beauty of the people and places in front of the camera shines through.

I am drawn to the love between families in all its forms. Big or small. quiet or energetic. simple or messy.
Every family holds its own unique story and deserves to be documented.

Sessions are centered around movement, play, and real interaction rather than posing, creating space for moments that feel genuine and joyful.

I specialize in:

Newborn and infant photography

• Family portrait sessions in homes, parks, neighborhood spots

Documentary lifestyle sessions

• Milestones and seasonal portraits

LOCATION

I serve the Washington DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia region with sessions in scenic parks, gardens, urban backdrops, and meaningful personal spaces — including your own backyard if that tells your story best (outdoor or studio). Local favorites you might consider: cherry blossoms, leafy parks, gardens, or classic neighborhood spots.

Don’t have a location in mind? I’m happy to help you find a place that feels like “you.”

To better align my own values and schedule, my weekends are prioritized for family time.

My weekend availability is very limited and most weekends will be dedicated to mini sessions.

creative scheduling ideas for weekday sessions:

  • Plan a "family day off" away from work and camp for a session, followed by a family activity (farm, bike ride, museum, nature trail) that is normally packed on the weekends.

  • Take advantage of the longer days of summer- scheduling something early morning or later in the evening

  • check with me about flexible times early in the morning or later evenings! I can accommodate earlier or later depending on location.

What about weekends?

Individual Mini Sessions

A woman and a girl are riding bikes outdoors on a sunny day in a neighborhood with trees and houses in the background. The woman is wearing a gray helmet and a teal sleeveless top, while the girl is wearing a pink helmet and a black dress with white patterns. Both are smiling and appear to be enjoying their ride.

It’s the little moments.

Life moves quickly, and the everyday ones matter more than we realize.

Now is the time to document them.

I couldn’t be happier with our experience with Ginny! Ginny was so friendly and kind, and her patience and skill with our son were unmatched. She managed to capture the sweetest smiles in every picture—something that’s no small feat! Our family pictures turned out absolutely beautiful. I highly recommend Ginny to anyone looking for a talented and personable photographer.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Choose layers and colors that complement the season’s soft light and scenery — think bright colors, warm neutrals, and comfortable fabrics that let movement and connection show through.

  • Absolutely! I love including grandparents, siblings, and furry family members — it’s your story, and I want it to feel complete.

  • Clouds actually make beautiful light — but if it’s truly raining, we can reschedule or move to your home or studio option.

  • I recommend booking as soon as you know your ideal date so you don’t miss out.

  • Kids being kids is expected. I focus on connection, movement, and natural interaction, not stiff posing. Even the silly, wild, or unpredictable moments often become the most meaningful images.

  • I conservatively say 2 weeks, but pretty much always deliver in about a week!
