Why I Ask My Branding Photography Clients About Their Favorite Music
Discover how your favorite music can help you relax, feel confident, and get authentic photos during your branding photography session.
When clients book their branding photoshoot, one things I ask is:
“What’s your favorite music?”
It may seem like a small detail, but music plays a powerful role in helping you feel comfortable, confident, and authentic during your branding session. Here’s why it matters.
1. Music Helps You Relax in Front of the Camera
Most clients arrive with the same worries: What do I do with my hands? Will I look awkward? How do I pose? The truth is—you don’t have to figure that out alone.
Playing your favorite music instantly shifts the energy. You relax, smile, and feel more like yourself, which leads to natural, confident photos.
2. Music Sets the Tone for Your Brand Story
Branding photography isn’t just about headshots—it’s about creating images that reflect your personality and connect with your audience.
Whether your vibe is upbeat pop, smooth jazz, or acoustic coffeehouse tunes, your music helps set the atmosphere for your shoot. It’s a subtle way to bring your brand personality into the session.
3. Authentic Photos Come From Authentic Moments
The best branding images don’t happen when you’re overly posed. They happen when you’re laughing mid-song, moving naturally, or simply enjoying the moment. Music helps create those real, unscripted moments that make your photos stand out.
4. A Branding Photographer Who Leads the Process
You don’t have to show up to your session knowing exactly what to do…that’s my job. From music to posing direction, I lead you every step of the way so you feel comfortable, supported, and confident in front of the camera.

If you’ve been putting off branding photos because you’re nervous about feeling awkward, I want you to know - you don’t have to do this alone. With the right music (and the right photographer guiding you), your session can actually be fun.
A Calm, Intentional Brand Session with Divine Heart Enterprise
This intentional branding session with Nobuyo of Divine Heart Enterprise brought her spiritual, grounded energy into every frame. A look behind the scenes with Washington DC, Maryland brand photographer Ginny Filer.
As a brand photographer based in the DMV area, I get to work with all kinds of incredible entrepreneurs, but this session with Nobuyo, founder of Divine Heart Enterprise, was definitely unique in the best of ways. Her work is grounded in spiritual coaching, energy healing, and feng shui. She helps clients reconnect with themselves and move through life with more clarity and intention.
Our goal for this branding photography session was to create a library of images that feel calm, welcoming, and true to her work.
We started in Nobuyo’s home office. This space is a key part of her brand—it’s where she meets clients, creates content, and holds space for others. It’s filled with meaningful items like tuning forks, journals, crystals, and cards, and we made sure those details were captured. The cherry blossom wallpaper in the room was perfect and I loved incorporating all the color.
I also love the that Nobuyo is a pilot (!!) AND how that perfect metaphor just resonates with her spiritual work. She is a spiritual guide, helping bring her clients along their unique path….and the fact that she is an actual pilot is just too perfect. So we definitely brought in some of that map/flight imagery!
Her sister-in-law served as an amazing “client” being a perfect model and also cheerleader for Nobuyo in what can be an awkward and intimating day in front of the camera! I always recommend having a hyper person with you on shoot day if you can!
Later, we moved outdoors to photograph her in nature. Soft natural light and an easy, peaceful setting gave us exactly what we needed. The images we captured will be used on her new website, across social media, and in future digital offerings. Having this kind of image library means she doesn’t have to scramble for visuals—she now has a full set of photos that clearly reflect who she is and what her brand is all about.
That’s what good branding photography should do. It’s not about being trendy or overly styled. It’s about showing your audience who you are and what working with you actually feels like.
Whether you're a coach, healer, creative, or small business owner, having strong, personal brand images can make all the difference. It builds trust, creates connection, and gives you confidence in how you’re showing up online.
Nobuyo, thank you for letting me document your work. Your presence is something special, and I’m so glad we were able to capture it in a way that feels like you.
If you're a business owner or entrepreneur looking for a brand photographer in Washington DC, Maryland, or Northern Virginia, I’d love to connect. Let’s create branding photos that actually feel like you.
