A Session with Chris of Operation STR | Maryland Branding Photography
Maryland Branding Photography with Chris
One of my recent Brand Starter Sessions was with Chris, the owner of Operation STR, a property management company for short term rentals.
Maryland branding photography sessions are always interesting because every business has a different story to tell. Chris came in with a clear vision of how he wanted to show up professionally, but he was also open to trying different ideas and approaches throughout the session. That combination usually leads to the strongest gallery, and this session was no exception.
One thing that made this session a little different for me is that I don't photograph men as often as I photograph women-owned businesses, families, or parent-child sessions. It was a fun change of pace and a great reminder that strong personal branding images are important for every business owner, regardless of industry.
Session Highlights
From the beginning, our goal was variety.
When someone invests in branding photography, I want them to walk away with images that can work across multiple platforms and purposes. Website headers, LinkedIn profiles, speaking engagements, social media content, presentations, and marketing materials all require slightly different types of images.
We focused on creating a mix of polished headshots, approachable portraits, and images that felt professional without being overly formal. Chris was willing to experiment with different expressions, poses, and setups, which helped us create a gallery that feels both professional and approachable.
Some of my favorite branding sessions happen when clients don't overthink every frame. Chris trusted the process, and that allowed us to move quickly and create a lot of variety in a relatively short amount of time.
We were able to capture images that communicate leadership and expertise while still feeling natural and authentic to who he is.

Why This Worked
A common concern I hear from branding clients is that they aren't comfortable in front of the camera.
The truth is that most people aren't.
What makes a branding session successful isn't modeling experience. It's being willing to try a few things and trust the process.
Chris came prepared, had a clear understanding of his brand, and stayed open to direction throughout the session. That gave us flexibility to create images that felt genuine instead of stiff or overly posed.
The result was a gallery with plenty of options for different marketing needs, which is exactly what a strong branding session should deliver.
Helpful Takeaway for Business Owners
If you're planning branding photos, think beyond the headshot.
Consider where you'll actually use your images over the next year. Do you need website content? Social media images? Speaking engagement materials? LinkedIn updates? Team introductions?
The more variety we create during your session, the longer those images can work for your business.
A Brand Starter Session is designed to help business owners build a versatile image library without needing an all-day shoot.
