Why “Just Get Some Photos” Rarely Works

“I think I just need some new photos.”

That’s usually where this starts.

Your website needs something.
Your content feels a little tired.
You’re pulling from old galleries, a few phone photos, random stock, maybe something from years ago that kind of still works.

So the next step feels obvious:
book a shoot, get updated images, move on.

The problem is… it doesn’t always fix it

You get the photos.

They’re good.
They look polished.
There are a few you really like.

But then a few weeks go by…

You’re not using them as much as you thought you would.
Or you’re using them, but it still feels slightly off.
Or you’re back to staring at your screen, unsure what to post.

Nothing is technically wrong.

But nothing really clicked either.

Here’s what’s actually happening

Photos don’t solve uncertainty.

If you’re not fully clear on how you want to show up,
what your brand actually feels like,
or what you want people to take away when they land on your site…

Then new photos just give you more options to sort through.

And more options doesn’t always make things easier.

Where most branding shoots fall apart

A lot of sessions start with:

“Let’s get a variety.”

Different outfits.
Different locations.
Different looks.

Which sounds productive.

But without a clear direction, you end up with a collection of images that don’t fully connect to each other… or to your brand.

The Brand Process

What works better

Before we ever get into outfits or locations, we figure out:

  • What are you actually building right now?

  • How do you want to come across?

  • What still feels like you, and what doesn’t anymore?

  • Where are these images going to live and what do they need to do?

Not overcomplicated.
Just clear enough that the photos have a job.

The shift that happens after

This is the part people don’t expect.

You stop second guessing what to share.
You reach for your photos without digging through folders.
Your website feels more pulled together.

Things feel smoother.

Not because you suddenly figured out marketing.

Because your visuals are finally supporting you instead of sitting there.

If you’ve been thinking “I just need photos…”

You might.

But more likely, you need photos that are actually doing something for your business.

I photograph branding sessions in my Silver Spring studio and on location across Washington DC, Bethesda, and Northern Virginia.

If you’re ready for images that actually support how you show up, not just fill space, let’s talk.

I know not everybody loves birthdays, but I definitely do! You should always take time to celebrate yourself - the good, the struggles and all the in-between of where you are in life; because here you are! You’re doing it!

And to celebrate m

@mizchynuhdoll & I are working on something new… and we want you in on it! 👀

The kind that just are what they are.

The photos you’ll love later won’t be about the location.

They’ll be about:
how your kids leaned into you
how everyone relaxed halfway through
the little moments you didn’t plan

The location just helps make that easier.

“What if my kids don’t cooperate?”

Probably the #1 fear of any parent investing in a photo session.

Short answer: they don’t have to.

Mini sessions aren’t about perfect behavior.
They’re about keeping things mov
