There are some days in the studio that just feel different.
Last week was one of those.
We hosted a headshot mini session day here in my Silver Spring studio with Valerie Hammer doing makeup, and from the moment the first client walked in, the energy was just… good.
Not stiff.
Not overly polished.
Just real, relaxed, and super fun.
We photographed nine women throughout the day. Different industries, different personalities, different reasons for showing up. But by the end, it all started to feel connected.
What These Sessions Are Actually About
On paper, these are “mini headshot sessions.”
Quick. Efficient. In and out.
But that’s not really what’s happening.
Most of the women who walk into my studio are in some kind of transition. A new role. A job search. Stepping into something bigger. Or sometimes just realizing their current photo doesn’t reflect who they are anymore.
And there’s always a little hesitation at the beginning.
“I’m awkward in photos.”
“I don’t know what to do.”
“I just need something simple.”
That’s the part I expect.
Because it’s not just updating a headshot. It’s about being seen in a new way.
The Shift That Happens (Every Time)
About five minutes in, something changes.
They relax.
They stop overthinking.
They start to trust the process.
And then suddenly, they look like themselves. Just a little more confident. A little more present.
That’s always the goal.
Not stiff corporate photos.
Not overly styled versions of you.
Just you, on a really good day.
A Moment I Didn’t Expect
One of my favorite parts of the day had nothing to do with photos.
One woman came in because she’s currently job searching. Another woman who was starting her session overheard the conversation.
Same industry. Similar experience.
They started talking. Exchanged information. And by the end, they were already helping each other navigate the job search.
That’s not something you can plan.
But it says a lot about the kind of women who show up to these sessions. They’re thoughtful, supportive, and in it together more than they realize.
Why Add Professional Makeup
Having Val there changes everything.
Not in a “full glam” way.
In a “you look like yourself, just more awake and put together” kind of way.
It removes a layer of stress before you even step in front of the camera. You don’t have to figure it out. You don’t have to second guess.
You just sit down, take a breath, and ease into it.
Who These Headshot Sessions Are For
These sessions are designed for women who:
Are stepping into something new professionally
Need a polished photo for LinkedIn or their website
Want to look confident without feeling stiff
Most of my clients are balancing a lot already. They don’t want a complicated process. They want something that feels easy and actually works.
That’s the whole point.
Studio Headshots in Silver Spring, Serving the DMV
All of these sessions take place in my Silver Spring, MD studio, with clients coming from all over the DMV. Washington DC, Bethesda, Rockville, Northern Virginia.
It’s quick. It’s structured. And it’s designed to feel a lot easier than you think it will.
Thinking About Updating Your Headshot?
If your current photo feels outdated or just not quite like you anymore, you’re not alone.
You don’t need to have it all figured out.
You don’t need to know how to pose.
You just need to show up.
I’ll take care of the rest.
