I love finding new locations to conduct sessions, and while I definitely have my favorites, I’m always open to new ideas and suggestions from clients and trying new places! Here are 10 new(ish) discoveries I made in 2019!
The Butterfly Pavilion at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History
This was such a fun spot for a 1st birthday party and fun for the kids (and adults) to enjoy the butterflies, and surprisingly not that expensive to rent out for 30 minutes (which is all kids that age realistically last!).
St. Aidan’s Preschool
I was fortunately to offer Holiday Mini Sessions to benefit St. Aidan’s Preschool and it was a great backdrop for some cute family photos!
Fransicsan Monastary
While not technically a new place, it’s one I haven’t used as much as I’d like to! It has so much to offer and I loved doing two different sessions here this year and hope for more in 2020!
Potomac Overlook Park
This was a new spot I didn’t know about in Arlington, but it was pretty empty on this fall morning and had a great backdrop for these photos!
Historic Kent Manor
I haven’t explored Annapolis very much, but this was a quaint and adorable spot for Melissa and David’s gorgeous wedding. This historic manor had so many picturesque locations for this wonderful couple!
Canton Waterfront Park
Baltimore is another place that’s not too far, and this park provided a perfect backdrop for Jacyln and Patrick’s engagement photos - I loved the waterfront and green space.
Josephine Butler Center
I absolutely loved the bright and airy space at the Josephine Butler Center that was perfect for Stefanie and Ari’s intimate wedding ceremony. The outdoor spot was beautiful too and worked despite the rain with the beautiful overhang. I also love that it is right across from Meredian Hill Park.
Savage Mill
This spot is a bit further from the the DMV area, but located in Howard County, MD. I love the old historic bridge and great character of this spot!
Castleton Festival
I had photographed Cassandra and Adam’s wedding here back in 2015, but loved exploring it even more to help with some promo shots for their beautiful property! It’s a great spot if you are looking for a comprehensive and unique wedding venue!
Your Home
I am always surprised what is possible with good light and creativity! Most people don’t think their home will work, but you’d be surprised what magic can happen with just a few tweaks and the right light. It can be a fun creative challenge, but most always doable! :)
