Favorite Family Portraits of 2025 | Silver Spring MD Family Photographer
This isn’t a comprehensive list—if it were, this post would be an essay. But here’s a small sampling of favorite family portraits from 2025, highlighting connection, closeness, and real moments photographed in Silver Spring, MD and the DMV.
Every year, there are so many images that stay with me long after galleries are delivered. If I tried to include all of my favorite portraits from 2025, this post would turn into a very long essay.
So instead, here’s a small sampling.
These images reflect what I care most about as a family photographer in Silver Spring, MD - connection, ease, and the quiet moments that happen when families are simply together. No big performances. No forced smiles. Just real closeness, shared glances, and the kind of love that shows up naturally when people feel comfortable.
Most of these moments happened in familiar places: homes, studios, neighborhood parks, and locations throughout the DMV where families could relax and be themselves. That comfort always shows in the photos. Kids lead the way. Parents lean in. Everyone settles into who they already are.
This collection isn’t about perfection. It’s about presence. And it’s a reminder of why documenting families in a natural, honest way continues to be meaningful year after year.
If you’re looking for family photos that feel like you—rooted in real connection and photographed with care—I’d love to create something like this together.
How to Create Real Moments During Your Family Session
Forget stiff poses and forced smiles. The real magic happens in between. Here's how we create authentic, connected moments that feel like you.
When most people think of family photos, they picture everyone lined up, smiling at the camera, and hoping the kids will sit still long enough to make it work.
And yes, we’ll always make time for the "everyone looking" photo. But those aren’t usually the ones that end up framed.
The images you’ll keep forever are the ones where your little one is cracking up in a tickle fight. Where you’re snuggling your toddler while they twirl your hair. Where nobody’s looking at the camera at all.
Those are the moments that feel like your family.
Here’s how we make that happen during your session:
Play a Game We start with play. It’s the fastest way to loosen up and connect. Games like running toward the camera, a tickle fight, or whispering something silly in each other’s ear change the energy fast. No more "cheese," just real smiles.
Keep Moving Standing still and waiting for a photo feels awkward. Especially for kids. That’s why I’ll have you walk, spin, twirl, or dance. Movement relaxes everyone and brings out those real, in-between expressions.
Snuggle In Some of the sweetest photos happen when everyone’s piled together. When little hands are tangled in your shirt and a kiddo climbs into your lap, that closeness brings out natural affection.
Forget the Camera You don’t have to perform. Actually, I hope you won’t. Let the kids be silly. Talk to each other. Hug, joke, relax. The more you forget I’m there, the more real your photos will be.
Your family session isn’t about looking perfect. It’s about telling your story as it is, right now.
And these in-between moments are the ones you’ll come back to year after year.

The Watson Family: A Studio Session Full of Sweetness & Familiar Faces
After nearly five years, the Watson family returned for a studio session—and it was everything. With glowing light, heartfelt laughs, and a beautiful makeup by Valerie Hammer, their session reminded me why I love what I do. So many sweet moments captured forever.
It’s always such a joy when I get to photograph longtime clients—but there’s something extra special about reconnecting after several years and seeing how much a family has grown!
The Watson family and I go way back, but it had been about five years since we’d last seen each other. So when they reached out to schedule an in-studio family session, I was so excited to catch up and capture this new chapter of their lives.
A Little Glam, A Lot of Heart
Before the session even began, Vanessa had her makeup done by the amazing Valerie Hammer Makeup Artistry, and she looked radiant. I always say you don’t have to get makeup done professionally, but when you do, there’s a noticeable boost in confidence and glow—and that definitely shined through in the photos.
From the moment they walked in, the Watsons brought their love, laughter, and connection right into the studio. It felt so natural. So them.
Studio Sessions = Simple + Magical
Sometimes the simplicity of a studio session is exactly what a family needs. No weather stress, no distractions—just soft light, cozy vibes, and space to be yourselves.
We laughed, we played, we caught those little in-between glances that happen when you’re truly comfortable with each other. It was relaxed and full of those authentic moments I love most.
And while every session gives me something special, this one felt like a full-circle moment to see how much the kids have grown and how beautifully this family continues to love on each other.
Watsons, Thank You
Vanessa, thank you for trusting me again after all this time. It meant so much to welcome you back into my studio and get to document this season of your family’s life. You made it easy. You made it beautiful. And now… you’ve got a whole new gallery of moments to hold onto.
Already counting down to the next time. 😉
