✨ Meet Kim, Josh, and their sweet dog Haru ✨

Kim (@kimbermeer) is not only a breast cancer survivor but a true fighter whose strength and warmth shine through in just who she is as a person. I've had the privilege of photographing her at the start of this journey, and I'm so impressed with her vulnerability and willingness to share the candid, messy and hard reality of dealing with cancer.

But this session was about celebrating her family and the love between these 3! We kept things simple and fun— (and it helps they were total pros in front of the camera!) Haru brought his own charm to the session and we were all impressed with his cooperation!

Grateful to have been a part of their story and to continue documenting these meaningful chapters. Life can be hard, but it’s also so good. 💛

Location Scouting | Maryland DMV Area

I had the opportunity to do a little location scouting on this beautiful spring day and convinced my not-so-camera loving kid to join me on an “adventure” with mom. We went to 3 different parks in the Maryland/Silver Spring/Kensington area (and he was rewarded with playground time at each) but we checked out some of the pros and cons of each park! Let me know if you want to try any of these for your next photo session!

Veirs Mill Local Park

Pros:
Lots of scenic paths
Smaller dirt paths that go off to the side
Close to water/creek that runs beside it
Cute little weed flowers that sprout up in spring

Cons:
Lots of green- not as many flowering trees at this stage in spring (mid-April)
involves a little walking

Dewey Local Park

Pros:
Very unique mural walls
big new playground

Cons:
Crowded
Not as much green space
Has a big dog park (pro or con depending on who you ask! For my non-dog-loving kid, it was a con!)

Winding Creek Local Park

Pros:
2 cute bridges
close to water running through
Rosebud tree brings in some color

Cons:
Not as much space
More people/traffic/signs trash cans to work around
