What Actually Happens in a 15-Minute Family Session (Spoiler: It’s Not What You Think)

Let me walk you through this, because I think people imagine mini sessions being… kind of chaotic.

Short. Rushed. Stressful.

Kids melting down. Parents sweating. And that may be true.

But I got you. I’ve seen it alllll before and I’m ready for it. It does not surprise me or rattle me. And having a calm one in the bunch matters.

Before you even show up

I’ve already done the work.

I know exactly where we’re shooting.
I know where the light is best.
I know how to move quickly without it feeling rushed.

You don’t have to figure anything out when you get there.

You just show up.

Minute 1–3: The “this might be chaos” moment

This is my favorite part.

Kids are a little unsure.
Parents are like, “okay here we go…”
Everyone’s settling in.

Nothing looks perfect yet.

That’s normal.

I’m not trying to force anything right away.
I’m just watching. Talking. Getting a feel for your crew.

And if something’s not working- we pivot. We can always revisit.

Minute 4–10: It clicks

This is where it shifts.

Your kids start to loosen up.
Someone starts laughing.
Someone runs. Someone hugs you. Someone ignores me completely.

Perfect.

This is where the good stuff happens.

Not because everyone is “behaving”
But because everyone is being themselves.

Minute 11–15: We wrap it up without dragging it out

This is the secret.

We stop before kids are over it.
Before parents are stressed.
Before it turns into a whole thing.

You leave thinking:
“Wait… that was it?”

And that’s exactly how it should feel.

What you don’t need to worry about

You don’t need perfectly behaved kids.
You don’t need to know how to pose.
You don’t need to plan every detail.

That’s my job.

You just need to show up and be with your people.

Why minis work so well (especially right now)

They fit into real life.

You don’t have to carve out a whole day.
You don’t have to overthink it.
You don’t have to wait for everything to feel “ready.”

It’s simple.
And for most families, that’s exactly what makes it doable.

If you’ve been curious but unsure

This is your behind-the-scenes look.

It’s not rushed.
It’s not stressful.
It’s not a production.

It’s 15 minutes that ends up meaning a whole lot more than you expect.

Spring mini sessions are happening in Silver Spring, with families joining from Bethesda, Rockville, DC, and Northern Virginia.

I’ve got a few spots left if you want to join me!
