Taking your own personal branding photos is no easy task, but I learned a LOT from the process (and got some great photos!). The top tips I learned:
Always get your hair and makeup done
My personal recommendation is Valerie Hammer Makeup Artistry because she’s a wonderful person and extremely talented! I felt SO good after our session - not just because I looked great but because it was a great EXPERIENCE. And I had so much more confidence to be in front of the camera.
Eat a big breakfast
The day goes by fast and I was trying to get through a lot and I did not have time to stop and eat.
Pick out and Prep Outfits well ahead of time:
I had a general idea of my outfits, but since my daily wear is more of “leggings and a comfy top”, I had not worn a lot of these clothes in quite some time…. Trying them on, ironing them and figuring out what still fit took more time than it should…. This also includes pairing jewelry, shoes and accessories ahead of time too.
Get that manicure
I did it! So glad I did. I should have also sprung for the pedicure, but…..next time! Who knew I’d do so much barefoot, but that is my preferred way to be!
Be comfortable being uncomfortable
I definitely felt ridiculous laughing and smiling to no one, but it worked and trying to “act natural” is no easy task. Give yourself grace and laugh with yourself!
Posing isn’t natural
I learned a lot about how various poses look on camera. Some may feel right, but look terrible. While others feel ridiculous but look amazing. Modeling is truly a craft and I give all the credit to those models! Knowing your body and your angles is tough, but the only way to learn it is to do it!
